Purity, by Garth Greenwell

There are writers who do not present their novelties in novel Rather, they give away new deliveries of life, of stark poetry in prose, with its scorch and its pus, with humors of all kinds that sprinkle like discharge, blood or sweat. It is the case of a Garth Greenwell who doesn't get carried away by the best-selling streams because he has enough of making his own bestseller in his own right.

That is the premise of originality, not looking for the genre but making the genre. This is how originality ends up selling, although it is not unfortunately in all cases of so many genuine authors in their creativity. But be the example for all those who are still on the road seeking their fortune, for those who will despair and give up and for those who will also get their piece of transcendence.

Because yeah guys like Garth greenwell they are prey writers who bite your skin down to the metallic smell of blood; until the pain that reaches the last layer of the dermis. Reading is also that (or should be that as a starting point), feeling above all, empathizing to the point of nausea or orgasm. Try it in this new novel.

Synopsis

In the city of Sofia you can breathe the agitated airs of a democracy just released. Young students parade through its streets with songs and proclamations to conquer new freedoms, while the old socialist buildings slowly deteriorate. Amid this effervescent atmosphere, Garth Greenwell voices an American professor who has succeeded in making Bulgaria his home.

At the beginning of the novel, our protagonist has just separated from R., the only man he has ever loved with a feeling of purity that he did not even think possible. In this new stage of his life, a series of encounters with students, other writers like him or sporadic lovers reveal new forms of intimacy, power and desire that will confront him with his scars.

Greenwell's acclaimed second novel could be read like a storybook or a delicate symphony in three movements. With his usual sensual and detailed prose, Greenwell manages to capture on paper the strange dialects of eroticism and desire in a text of extraordinary force, consolidating his position as one of the writers who best investigates the complex springs of human nature.
