If you recently reviewed the novel ragdoll (rag doll), by Daniel Cole, we now discover another novel that does not lag behind in terms of the spectacular nature of the crime and the mischief of the murderer to make a liturgy of death, or artistic expression, or some other inextricable motive that it links directly to the ability of the human mind to surrender to evil when it succumbs to the ancient temptations of the devil.

In the case of this book Splinters in the Blood, Ruth Lake leads the investigation to find the serial killer, a sort of macabre dressmaker who reconverts the lifeless bodies of his victims into disgusting mannequins ritually marked on their dead skin as tattoos or drawings that could be made on the real leather garments on which the dressmaker works with insane care.

He is accompanied in the investigation by Greg Carver, the perfect companion to always find a shoulder to lean on and with whom to ramble about the modus operandi until the rambling becomes a firm thread to pull.

Until the sinister affair points its bloody finger at good old Carver. The latest victim appears on a bad day characterized by his own wife, a direct and powerful threat to the heart and mind of the commissioner.

And Carver falters. Feeling defeated, he is driven by atavistic instincts of self-destruction, among all the easy vices where he can forget his new status as a puppet in the hands of a ruthless murderer.

When Carver gets to the bottom of his personal miseries, Lake's figure appears out of nowhere, as if he's been watching him all this time. Carver wakes up from his unconsciousness with a gunshot. Lake points it out. In the few seconds of brutal reinsertion into the real world, driven by the need for survival, Carver begins to discover a gripping truth….

Lake is with him in his apartment, just the two of them. When he's got it under control, Lake starts acting like they're at a crime scene, only erasing possible clues ...
