With his mastery of the various focuses, on the same plot that progresses in parallel in superimposed scenarios, Karin Slaughter presents us with one of those time trial novels loaded with psychological suspense and maximum tension action.

When the term "more ambitious work" is abused, the idea ends up wearing itself out. But in the case of Karin Slaughter, this new novel means expanding plot horizons despite connecting with her Will Trenton saga. Because we already know that Sara Linton is part of the same team as Will and something else ... but this story goes beyond the substance of all the above. The department of the FBI created by the author stays in this plot surpassed at all levels.

Sometimes suspense is transformed into the most complete black genre when it connects with the harsh reality. In this novel we move through the dark circles of the extreme right, of xenophobia, of the most bitter racism. And it may not only be small groups, but someone supports them from high places.

And of course, when madmen are given a path to implement a plan, the results can be devastating. The problem is that what Karin narrates does not sound so far-fetched in these days of bombastic populisms that stir up the worst in communities.

But in addition to the sediment, the action continues its course with a rhythm that cannot be escaped. And everything moves through those alternate foci that I mentioned earlier. On the one hand Michelle, the renowned scientist at the CDC in Atlanta, an expert in epidemics. For another Sara and the fatal opportunism that leads her to the center of the hurricane where she ends up being kidnapped.

The two women in the hands of unscrupulous capable of everything. A sinister plan that awakens the general conscience with an attack on the Georgian capital based on bombs, with many victims and Sara missing.

The horror of thinking that someone is attempting a biological attack that can cause a catastrophe. Despite how bad things look, Will needs to infiltrate among the fascist groups that can guide him in the search for Sara and in the unveiling of attacks that have half the FBI in fear.

The scenes move relentlessly between the abductions of Michelle, the scientist, Sara's and Will's trip to hell, where he will end up discovering how the extreme right is capable of recruiting with its simple mad inertia, the worst of every society , to the sickest thoughts and the purest animosity.
