Like a black market multinational, the Sinaloa cartel drinks much of the traffic in a market that feeds off drugs, weapons and wills. This novel by Don winslow, which closes a trilogy that spans more than a decade, outlines the particular business environment very well from a fiction with hints of harsh reality. A history documented during that passing of years of the trilogy and that splashes all over the international arena. In the specific case of the United States, it really supposes a latent conflict with Mexico, or at least with that state of Sinaloa completely dominated by the organized mafia.

With that point of international thriller that acquires the full volume, and that tunes in with his compatriot Daniel Silva, Don Winslow plunges us into the resolution of this story that straddles the truth and the conjecture about the biggest source of wholesale smuggling. And that's where the American DEA tries to unravel the dark skein capable of weaving between the highest spheres.

How else could the fight against this cartel with its own paramilitary army continue for decades?

The character of Art Keller and the antagonist Adán Barrera offered us moments of that dark epic of times that run between bribes and violence (in case of not accepting those payments with bloody money).

But when Keller could think that the matter would die with Barrera, he discovers how his legacy continues to expand among the most seasoned scions bent on continuing the great work. And there are always those who are willing to compromise beyond the border where wet backs die while the distributors of a thriving heroin that wreak havoc among the population take advantage of their bodies to reach the other shore.

Only Keller has been through so much now that he's up for anything. And as on other occasions the enemy may be in his own house, on the commanders that try to direct him or in instances of power that he could never dream of denouncing. With the same intensity with which Art managed to defeat Barrera, in this tremendous finale he will try to make the ramifications of his power disappear forever.

A closing for the trilogy started with "The power of the dog", followed by "The cartel" and now finished with "The border"
