When I started writing my novel «The arms of my cross«, A ucronía in which Hitler fled to Argentina, I also inquired about another truly illustrious fugitive from Nazism: Josef Mengele. And the truth is that the matter has its crumb ...

Whoever was the most aberrational conductor of the "final solution" ended up dying with the dignity that would never have corresponded to him, in a country on the other side of the ocean, with the Mossad unable to hunt him down.

Over time, every story seems to turn into a novel. And there, in that blurred border between myth and reality, this book expands on Mengele's life after his lurid role in the Nazi death camps.

In the thirty years that Mengele spent in Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil, references to his lifestyle point to a search for normality. The testimonies of people who supposedly entered their closest environment point to the full conviction of their aberrant practices, even after the years have passed and they may have slightly changed their opinion.

Man shields himself from his own atrocities and guilt. What a doubt there is. Mengele is the greatest exponent of this rule.

But beyond the story about the lifestyle during his long escape, this book also tells us about how, how this infamous doctor was able to continue living in a comfortable way, with changes of identity and means to escape the Intelligence services from half the world. The truth is that even after the defeat of the Third Reich, many rich and phil-Nazi characters remained convinced that perhaps the Jewish extermination could have been the solution for this world.

The one known as Angel of Death had many friends and powerful accomplices. Mengele died consumed by his elongated shadows and only divine justice, if there could be one, would be in charge of prosecuting him for everything he involved in his desire to perpetuate evil.
