The essay of a subject from within requires an undeniable exercise of introspection without fuss to pull out what may be true. In this case, Josep Borrell presents his test The ides of October with the soon-discovered pretense of getting into the failure of a socialist mechanism that is making waves everywhere in Europe and that is destabilizing at forced marches in Spain.

Title the ides of october It evokes the Roman calendar and serves to mark a momentous milestone in the pressing calendar of social democracy in Spain. The day in which the left must clarify its position from within and without has arrived. The left-wing electorate is very sensitive to the failures and mistakes of its leaders. The Social Democrats are highly demanding with whom they must maintain their ideology pristine.

But the circumstances are what they are. The market squeezes governments and the margin to act within this society is narrowing due to the demands of this new economic dictator. A strong social democracy could provide a great deal of solution towards balance, but all of it is battered, eaten away by the internal enemy and by the lack of credibility.

Beyond the specific historical circumstances, Josep Borrell delves into the Spanish PSOE. It presents us with a scenario that, although it is strongly marked by those contradictions to overcome between what has been conceived and reality, is still more muddied by particular ambitions and clashes of egos.

A complicated scenario that reached its zenith in October 2016 in a kind of ides equated with the famous March that coincided with the death of Caesar. The Spanish left is headed and immersed in an atomizing current of all the European left. A difficult panorama, a challenge for the survival of the party and the ideal.
