Zaro Balder and the Sleep Detectives. Somnium, by Arturo Llamas

The literary genre of Science Fiction is on many occasions the landing strip of every writer who, driven by overflowing imagination, finds in this inexhaustible space, the best of the arguments on which to develop his story. And today I bring one of those novelties in fiction novel that does not leave any reader indifferent who plunges between its pages.

Because Arthur Llamas he has extraordinarily piloted this story (his second novel after Marcos Despierta), about dreams, that parallel world that, beyond scientific investigations, always point to something else that eludes us. Meanings that can point to the transcendental from its symbology with an aftertaste of prophecy or access to another dimension.

Somnium is a state entity of the Government of Spain under whose umbrella the most avant-garde research and projects around dreams are developed. Because precisely in this new organization they know about the potential of some special "dreamers" in whose dream processes there is much more value than that of the simple download of consciousness.

With a particular modus operandi, Somnium makes its necessary proselytism to attract to the organization those who, through their dreams, have extraordinary capacities. Because they, those chosen by Somnium, connect directly with the future, with a future to be deciphered from those fully divinatory projections of the psyche.

The gift of prophecy. Cassandra's syndrome. Zaro, our protagonist, focuses the plot from the moment he approaches a Somnium conference out of curiosity until, fascinated by the analogies with his own dreams, he accesses the Academy where he will be taught to control his ability.

Because Zaro and others like him will come out the best. Some Sleep Detectives whose mission becomes extremely important to avoid the risks of an always uncertain future among so many dangers that threaten our world.

The director of Somnium does his recruitment work. Once inside Somnium, the life of the aspirants moves to the frenetic rhythm of a great adventure in which the author manages to perfectly capture his lively rhythm, the intense nerve of an agile plot with a very cinematic point.

Zaro's life has undoubtedly taken a brutal turn. His routine is now geared towards being one of the chosen ones. But the matter will also have its dark side, aspects that will put the suspicious Zaro on alert and expose him to unexpected risks. Perhaps it is a matter of a natural counterpart ..., every human who has great virtue, a marked difference, also faces his own demons.

Those days of training, and so many discoveries about his divinatory power, will also serve to bring us closer to the character from his most personal plot. Their relationships with the other participants, the intense and growing sense of belonging, the birth of a great love and an intermittent feeling of anxiety about their own secrets.
