The life told by a sapiens to a Neanderthal, by Juan José Millas

It will be through dialogue that telling life ... Because one thing is that the breams are called upon as the worst interlocutors from the obvious foolishness of their hollow gaze, and another thing is that we meet two proto-men, stick in hand, willing to talk about the finitude or infinity of their respective private properties.

From this idea that can appear in our head from the title, we come to the always great book Juan Jose Millas, an expert in squeezing language and plots alike to wake us up to a blessed estrangement capable of providing lucidity and humor in similar amounts.

Only this time he accompanies Millás, Juan Luis Arsuaga expert in fossils and his most transcendent literature embedded in the rocks. And hence the Neanderthal Sapiens face to face, clubs on the ground and a new will to understand something of what has been happening in the last millennia on the face of this planet ...

For years, the interest in understanding life, its origins and its evolution resonates in the head of Juan José Millás, so he set out to meet, together with one of the greatest specialists in this country in the field, Juan Luis Arsuaga, why we are the way we are and what has led us to where we are.

The wisdom of the paleontologist is combined in this book with the wit and personal and surprising look that the writer has on reality. Because Millás is a Neanderthal (or so he says), and Arsuaga, in his eyes, a sapiens.

Thus, over the course of many months, the two visited different places, many of them common scenarios of our daily lives, and others, unique locations where you can still see the vestiges of what we were, of the place we came from.

In these outings, which may remind the reader of those of Don Quixote and Sancho, the sapiens tried to teach the Neanderthal how to think like a sapiens and, above all, that prehistory is not a thing of the past: the footprints of humanity through of the millennia can be found anywhere from a cave or landscape to a playground or a stuffed animal store. It is life that beats in this book. The best of stories.
