3 best books by Richard Dübell

In the case of authors like Richard Dubell it is always easier to build my particular ranking of his three best novels. This German writer has recently devoted himself entirely to literary creation, but the truth is that he has done so by breaking into force.

Sometimes it happens that a topic, as fascinating as it is incomprehensibly shelved by everyone, even by narrators from half the world, is transformed in the hands of the appropriate author into awakening the great enigma, the mystery of mysteries. Something like this happened with the Codex Gigas, an ancient medieval manuscript, considered the eighth wonder of the world due to its impossible dimensions for its time (XNUMXth century) of whose wonderful nature this author gave a good account in The Devil's Bible.

I do not know if there were previous fiction authors who took care to raise a plot about this fascinating document of humanity, but Richard was the one who hit the nail the hardest. Among his five books published so far in Spanish (at least that I know of), I am going to screen and select the three recommended so that you know where to start reading the one considered as Dan Brown German.

Top 3 Recommended Novels by Richard Dübell

Devil's bible

I have no choice but to elevate this novel to the top. Its entertaining reading, its mysteries and enigmas that go beyond our reality, oblige it.

Summary: Bohemia, year 1572. In a ruined abbey, Andrej, an eight-year-old boy, witnesses a terrible bloodbath: ten people, including his parents, are brutally murdered by a maddened monk. Andrej, who was hiding behind a wall, manages to escape unharmed and without any of those who have come attracted by the screams noticing his presence.

No one who does not belong to the community can find out that this massacre has taken place ... If it were known, the monk's motives would have to be explained: the abbey library hides a precious document that supposedly has the power to announce the end of the world.

It is the Gigas codex, a compendium of evil, the Devil's Bible that, it is claimed, he wrote in just one night. This codex has caused the death of three popes and the kaiser, and it seems to take away whoever crosses its path. Richard Dübbel masterfully combines history and fiction to transport us from Bohemia to Vienna, the Vatican and Spain, in pursuit of the mysteries that have been woven around the satanic manuscript.

The Devil's Bible

The hero of Roncesvalles

It's what you get when an author sets his eyes on a national setting. Roncesvalles is a Navarrese place like no other, and the history that good Richard offers us does not detract from the fascinating views.

Summary: Two mighty kingdoms. Two great warriors. A mortal combat. Under Charlemagne, the kingdom of the Franks is a flourishing great power that does not stop extending its borders. Meanwhile, Hispania dominated by the Saracens observes its northern neighbor with distrust. For Roldán, a young Frankish warrior, it is a great honor when Charlemagne welcomes him into the illustrious circle of paladins, made up of his closest advisers and elite warriors, and he considers himself very fortunate when the king promises him the hand of the beautiful Arima, lady of the castle of Roncesvalles.

But Arima's heart belongs to someone else: precisely to Afdza Asdaq, the Commander-in-Chief of the Saracens and a special envoy from his people to enter into negotiations with the King of the Franks. In spite of everything, a deep friendship will be forged between Roldán and Asdaq ... until fate leads them to face the most important battle of their lives.

A life or death fight whose final outcome will depend on the secret kept by the woman they both love. A great king, a great hero and a great love: the epic story of El cantar de Roldán. A fascinating novel about the time when the fate of Europe was decided. Live with the army of Charlemagne the mythical battle of Roncesvalles.

Back in Germany, the author's homeland, this historical novel takes us back to the turbulent years of the mid-thirteenth century in Germany. The Crown awaits a successor, power struggles are assured ...
