The usual thing is that literary tandems are made up of authors in tune with the plot, making a clear staging of the genre that touches either mystery, police or even romantic. It is already more atypical that two writers as disparate as J. D. Barker y James Patterson team up on a novel.
First of all because of the egos. It seems strange to me that Patterson does not see in Barker the upstart, the apprentice of the trade while Barker can see Patterson as the dinosaur of the previous generation of literature.
But if the matter is observed with perspective, it must be considered that both writers had already been making the rule of the strange. Patterson already wrote a half book with former President Clinton while JD Barker has been in charge of narrating the now usual prequel of the day about the classic horror classics, none other than Dracula.
So everything makes more sense in that shared daring. All that remains is to wait for the mixture of terror, suspense, mystery and a pinch of black genre for full general enjoyment ...
Synopsis
One night, Michael Fitzgerald discovers a dead young woman in her bathtub when he returns from the supermarket. Next to the corpse is a sparrow feather. Terrified, he calls the police, who question him about the victim, Alyssa Tepper, whom he claims he does not know.
Detective Dobbs and FBI Agent Gimble join forces in what looks like a simple murder: when photos of Michael kissing Alyssa come to light, he is immediately arrested, but within hours another victim appears with the same pattern: a sparrow feather placed next to the body. When more appear, not only in Los Angeles but spread throughout the country, they are clear that they face a new serial killer, which they nickname Birdman.
