The paths between reason and madness, between truth and delirium make up a fertile landscape for narrative recreation. Before Susi Fox and her new novel, there were already those who complemented this idea of the most intense psychological thriller with the no less extremely emotional sensation of recent motherhood. The question is to approach the approach with a plot capable of offering something new that once again takes advantage of the pull of these premises to overwhelm the reader with a rhythm and tension that cannot be waived.

And Susi Fox manages, with intelligence and new perspectives, to rekindle the idea of the instinctive, of that mother capable of determining that the newborn child that lies next to her is not the same one that accompanied her in her womb for several months.

Sasha's medical staff and even her family environment associate the aberrant maternal reaction to trauma, to the particular history of unsuccessful searches for pregnancy, to previous abortions, to premature birth, to emergency cesarean section, to tension.

There are so many reasons why everyone considers Sasha's reaction to be temporary ...

And yet she is still adamant that the baby is not her son ...

The plot around this woman and doctor (to be exact) and her new motherhood invites us to intuit, to trust, to suspect or simply to see that outbreak of madness in Sasha that makes her unable to enjoy such a momentous life event.

But the author really moves like a psychoanalyst who plays with our mind, who offers trompe l'oeil or slides disconcerting overtones of verisimilitude. And so he manages to keep us trapped in the labyrinthine plot, as if deep in Sasha's own mind, between the insane and the confident glow of the instinct.

Sasha, the doctor and the woman, her science and her past, her frustrations that could finally be overcome once she was finally able to give birth from her womb ...

What ultimately happens will depend on how much you trust her, what you expect her to be, what Susi Fox has prepared in that twist that may emerge as pure magic or shatter wishes for a glorious ending.
