If you read this book, you will end up bringing a dog, probably a mastiff, into your home. He had seen emotional movies starring different animals. The usual nobility and unconditional love of many of our pets and domestic animals have a connection point that we do not always find among our species.

Dogs in particular are those faithful companions who accompany us wherever we go and who always show their affection in all circumstances. But differences in life expectancy often result in them leaving earlier. First of all, before you get the idea of never seeing them again, of course.

In the book Beyond Words, we are introduced to the life together of Lauren and her dog Gizelle, an imposing mastiff with whom she shares much of her life history. And there comes that strange moment when Lauren discovers that she has to say goodbye to her great love.

The author Lauren Watt gives her own name to the protagonist of the novel. I do not know what point of autobiography may lie in this fact. The truth is that Lauren, the author's alter ego, is about to take advantage of the last days of her dog's life to launch together on an adventure that closes that wonderful stage of existential coincidence.

It also happens that Gizelle has occupied that fascinating time of Lauren's youth, with stages of change and discovery. Lauren has been able to stomp and try to build her destiny thanks to the fact that her dog has embraced her in moments of troubles, comforting her and giving her new strength.

The trip, at times, has a point of unconsciousness, fantasy, denial, of trying to stretch the moments into eternity. But the fatal moment arrives, and Lauren only hopes she has minimally lived up to everything her dog deserves.
