When I approached this book it was not in excess of chauvinism. I was just curious to read about something that seems to have been taught us biased. It is worth that in 1588 the invincible army The Spanish were defeated in their intention to invade England but, in addition to the fact that the final war was closed in the Treaty of London, favorable to Spain, there were many more battles in which the Iberian ships were victorious.

With the passage of time, the prospect of these duels at sea, especially disputed between Spain and England, should be considered in their entirety. Unless in Spain we love fatalism more and we reserve in memory those occasions when we were defeated.

But it should also be noted that, among so many disputes faced in the middle of the sea, some accounts of what happened become legend, with its fuzzy limits between reality and fantasy. What is certain is that, as a result of what happened after each battle (where Spain got that trophy in different forms and domains), that dominance of seas and oceans is undeniable, that knowledge of the art of war between masts and sails. .

Among these episodes, the following stand out: The battle of La Rochelle The attack on London by Admiral Tovar The legend of Pero Niño The battle of San Juan de Ulúa The unique feat of Captain Cuéllar The confrontations against Francis Drake The battle of the island of Flores The master of the Tercios Juan del Águila in Kinsale Cornwall and the incursions in the south of England The legend of Cartagena de Indias and Blas de Lezo The great feat of El Glorious The story of Jorge Juan The coup of the «double convoy» The war in North America
