After reading a Spanish road novel: Farmland, by David Trueba, we jump to other of those plots at the wheel Heroes of the frontier. Without a doubt, these types of stories are a complete success when it comes to tuning in with the reader. Downtime at the wheel are prolific moments for meditation, the sensation of vital transit, the idea of life as a road, with what you have already left behind and how much or little that can wait for you ahead.

This time we meet Josie, a forty-year-old mother of two. Devoted to her work and immersed in the diabolical rhythm of the big city. That was Josie, but now she's on a lonely highway heading for Alaska. He knows he needs it to escape the shadow he is becoming, a personality built from the ideal of a successful urbanite that everyone aspires to, a person full of material goods with which to tinker with the void.

Josie drops everything. What for many would be and will be an unconscious action typical of some kind of crisis, really is a break with that frustration and disappointment of the person who knows himself corseted and outlined, full of expectations and routines.

Even her own relationship as a mother has been undermined. Her five- and eight-year-old children sometimes look like two strangers growing around her like vegetables planted in the garden ...

For all that… driving. Set a distant destination and establish a quiet route. You drive and think, you share with those who accompany you the changing landscape, you talk, imagine and dream about that new destination. Josie indulges in adventure, which like all risks can lead to losses and dangers. But it is already known that he who does not risk loses everything.

Alaska becomes a magic word for Josie. There she has thought about rebuilding her life and to that end of the American continent she heads determined and more and more convinced. As she drives, Josie discovers how she is shaking off all that stored dust on top of her being, until she discovers herself again young, alive and in love with living.
