The profession of reporter carries high risks. Antonio Pampliega knew it first-hand during the almost 300 days he was held captive, kidnapped by Al Qaeda during the Syrian war in July 2015.

In this book In the dark, the first-person account is shocking, agonizing. Antonio was already a regular in Syria, where he had traveled on many other occasions to prepare a report on the social situation in this country.

I suppose that a certain confidence from those repeated comings and goings to the troubled country could make Antonio and his colleagues think that nothing bad was going to happen to them. But in the end everything went wrong.

Suddenly the start of a van blocking their path, the growing tension and its transfer to God knows where.

And in that captivity, Antonio's first-person voice begins to rise. A story about the cruelty of the human being. Considered a spy, Antonio is subjected to constant humiliation. They lock it up and isolate it from everything. They only take him out to slaughter him or to humiliate him. Thus for days and days in which the song of the Muecín from the nearby mosque marks its sinister hours.

Terrified by the cold, disoriented, confused, frightened and totally defeated, to the point of overcoming his natural survival instinct and considering the only dark way out.

How did I get to this point?

This question introduces us to the story prior to the kidnapping, to that moment when Antonio was not yet the shadow of himself. Little did Antonio and his two fellow journalists imagine that they were going to be betrayed by their contacts.

The nightmare began while waiting for those guides. A black sensation hung like a mist in the suffocating heat. Antonio and his two companions then began their journey of no return ...
