I recently reviewed this author's novel The burning room. And the truth is that it was quite a discovery. This time it was an act of contrition towards the most genuine detective novel. The assault of the police by the black genre seems to have no turning back. But from time to time guys like Michael connelly that end up recovering the brilliance of the police as a pure and hard investigation towards the resolution of the case (with a certain humor through in the case of the aforementioned previous work)

In the case of book The dark side of goodbye, the best-selling detective author takes up his irrevocable Harry Bosch to lead a very special investigation. In this new case there are no deaths (not at least at startup). It is more about finding a possible illegitimate child of a powerful father who at the time, being much younger, escaped the confession of a pregnancy driven by vital motivations that seemed biased by the news.

Harry Bosch doesn't refuse. It is not that it is a question of searching through the sewers of power, or walking a tightrope through the underworld of the underworld. But… what the hell, this is a good rich client who pays well and ends up giving himself up to the cause of a possible misbegotten parenthood.

At first Harry may think that Mexico, the country of origin of the potential mother, may be a place full of potential bastards eager to adjust their lives to the appropriate history in order to affiliate with a rich father. (Not because Mexico is prone to bastards, but because the world in general tends to hasty sex)

But Harry Bosch is good and soon finds strings to pull. And surprisingly, some of those specific threads end up associating it with that particular story of the man who abandons the woman when she has her seed ...

The truth will set you free, sentences the biblical phrase. But maybe not Harry. Perhaps Harry faces freedom to learn facts and events that transcend beyond the forgetful rich father and end up clinging to his own destiny ...
