It has already rained since An Indecent Proposal, that movie that united Robert Redford and Demi Moore around a story of sex, infidelity and money, assaulted our consciences with that of the price of each one.

It turns out, however, curious that price is usually always associated with women. It is true that, apparently, prostitution or any other sex markets are more associated with trafficking in women, that is, with the feminine. From there to the imaginary of cinema, in charge of representing varieties of the same reality, and sometimes determined to exploit stereotypes.

And, as you can imagine, in the case of the book Buttons and Lace, Penelope Sky takes up that ideology of women as a possible almost material good with a fixed price.

Only in this case, the indecent proposal becomes an obscure agreement, an outstanding debt to be collected in the flesh. Finding eroticism under this new literary interpretation will not always be easy, but the truth is that the book is sold and the curiosity is triggered between readers.

Sexual practices of all kinds, too high a price to pay off debts at the price of abuse and depravity. A point of mystery about the real reasons for everything, the plan that leads the protagonist there ... the debt of her partner as sustenance so that she allows herself to be subjected to that payment in space.

Eroticism then pulling a dark morbid that does not leave indifferent. A turn beyond the erotic narrative, a third jump after the aforementioned movie of the indecent proposal and the shades of Gray. It is clear that it is fiction, and that making value judgments about the convenience of the plot is something very subjective, but if we talk about the prevailing machismo and the small details to be polished ...

In favor of the literary proposal, we must speak of the defense of artistic, literary creation or whatever. But without a doubt it is a reading for those who like the morbid and always know how to fully discern reality and fiction. If after reading the book you find yourself buying handcuffs in a sex shop…, it will be up to you.
