There are few who see the apocalypse as the arrival of a huge asteroid that raises eternal dust over the Earth's atmosphere. And just that is what this novel of Ben H. Winters. There are barely a few months for everything to end. Our civilization gives its last blows, with the forecast of an infallible and near destiny. A coup de grace from God, a pinpoint cosmic coincidence ...

The surrender world is surrendering to chaos, waiting for the asteroid 2011GV1 to embed itself in a world that pales in its shadow. Hank Palace is a cop so dedicated to his work that, even knowing that the end is near, he cannot stop playing his role. Around him he watches how people try to face the new reality as best they can. Each one surrenders to his last wishes in one way or another, or is caressed by beliefs and religions or takes advantage of the pillage, or hulks without knowing very well where ...

He, Hank Palace, continues to wake up every day with his police badge, and in the face of a disproportionate increase in suicides, the hanging of a character powerfully draws his attention. That individual has something in particular that makes his suicide a senseless act. His sense of smell, the one that has accompanied him correctly so many times, makes him consider that there is something strange about a case that, in light of the pressing circumstances, no one pays any interest.

But his search for answers may dispose him to know much beyond what he hoped could be one of his last cases before succumbing at the end of it all.

A suggestive plot that, thanks to the sagacious perspective of this last policeman, can take unpredictable courses.
