Lazarillo de Tormes, a great little story

The fact that it is an anonymous novel may have freed its author from the summary review and censorship of his time. Because published back in 1554, «The life of Lazarillo de Tormes and his fortunes and adversities«, as it is called in its full title, had a critical, satirical reading point and therefore contravened the dictated morality. here a juicy summary of the book Lazarillo de Tormes.

A subversive reading for the time that comes to us today therefore with that point of greater fidelity on uses and customs of his time, above other more chronic narratives. Because what is narrated between the lines about officialdom has that point of greater certainty and credibility.

But it is also "The Lazarillo de Tormes" It is a very entertaining novel, vivid from its first person that brings us closer to all kinds of adventures and misadventures. From the young protagonist of this story, a picaresque makes its way that is essentially resilience and overcoming adversity from a vital "strategy" that is based on that search for life frisando

We all remember emblematic scenes of the child making his way to harsh reality. From a tender and candid orphanhood to a childhood that forges him between pettiness, adversity and that dye of survival that soaks everything.

Essential wisdom of the path of life, of the streets in towns and cities, of human relationships after all. We find brilliant impossible balances between cultism and popular proverbs. Everything to synthesize in the young Lázaro the man faced with his most adverse destiny.

Picaresque is nothing other than survival, the need that justifies everything even in the purest soul of childhood. Life gives blows to those who are not born in a good birth. But Lázaro has the task of recounting from his own voice all the vital incidents towards survival. Interestingly, it is that adversity that makes the character shine as a closer hero. Empathy is served by being a child. Everything he does is justified to any reader.

It is not surprising then that the censorship of his time did not want this work of simple and supposed entertainment to be able to permeate a duly silenced and submissive people. Because literature can be transformative and a small great work like this remains to testify it.,

It is curious in this work how the unknown author took care to separate by "treaties" instead of chapters, something that until now has not been clear as to its formal validity or its more subjective interest. However, it is quite a declaration of intent to use this term. Because as a Treatise we understand each group of scenes as a complete closure on some aspect of human nature, giving the matter even more substance. Undoubtedly a willful separation to delve into some aspect of this nature.

Beyond structural singularities, the truth is that this epistolary novel is perfect for reading at any age. A child can peek into a remote childhood with which to quickly empathize while an adult discovers that child that we have all been, charged with energy and focused on getting ahead despite everything. Humor and irony, always vivid scenes with juicy dialogues and situations that can be extrapolated to a multitude of life lessons. A work always recommended.
