Again we meet John verdon, one of the last strongholds of the pure police genre, from where so many subgenres have been born that they ended up devouring their progenitor.

Black novels or thrillers that today are the best-selling publishers. All this is indebted to a literature to which Verdon pays homage in all his novels, faithful heir to Hammett o Chandler.

Angus Russell, a powerful millionaire man, is found dead in his Harrow Hill mansion with his throat slit from side to side. Fingerprints and DNA found at the crime scene point to Billy Tate, a town oddball related to witchcraft and a known grudge against the victim, as the culprit. But there is a problem. After falling from a roof, Tate was pronounced dead the day before Russell's murder.

When the police check the morgue where the body of Tate is inside a sealed coffin, they discover that, in addition to the fact that the body has disappeared, the coffin was not broken on the inside, but on the outside.

Immediately a media circus breaks out, with headlines proclaiming: Dead man walking, the killer from hell, the murder of zombies.

The entire town panics: all kinds of conspiracy theories start running, a literal witch hunt begins and, to add fuel to the fire, an apocalyptic gun-loving preacher encourages his followers to battle against Satan.

As Dave Gurney delves into the reality of Harrow Hill, the fatalities rapidly mount. Gurney discovers a web of unhealthy relationships, bitter resentments, and bitter power struggles. Each layer of deception he discovers leads to yet another. But eventually Gurney will uncover the strange truth at the heart of the murders, a truth as chilling as the headlines he stumbled upon early in the investigation.

John Verdon, the author of the best sellers worldwide I know what you're thinking With a new case in which former detective Dave Gurney will even risk his life to put an end to the macabre ambitions of a dangerous assassin the likes of which he has never faced before.
