From Nowhere, by Julia Navarro

We already know that put to novel, Julia Navarro He does it in a big way in substance and form. Because although he has lowered the bar in terms of the volume of his previous novel that exceeded 1.100 pages "You will not kill", also in this story it exceeds those 400 pages that point to considerable development. The point is that the plot always has a hook in the case of this author ...

Abir Nasr is a teenager who helplessly witnesses the murder of his family during an Israeli army mission in southern Lebanon. Faced with the corpses of his mother and little sister, he vows to hunt down the culprits for the rest of his life.

Night after night the threat of Abir breaks into the dream of Jacob Baudin, one of the soldiers who has participated in the action while fulfilling his mandatory military service, facing the dilemma of fighting enemies he has not chosen. Jacob, the son of French parents, does not stop feeling like an emigrant in Israel and tries to reconcile himself with an identity that is given to him by his status as a Jew.

After the tragedy, Abir is welcomed by relatives in Paris, where he feels trapped between two irreconcilable worlds, the suffocating family nucleus and the open society that offers him freedom and that is embodied by two young men: his cousin Noura, who rebels against the impositions of the religious fundamentalism of his father and Marion, a beautiful and vital teenager, with whom he falls obsessively in love.

From nowhere is a journey to the confines of the consciousness of two men who are forced to live according to identities they have not chosen and from which it is difficult to escape, whose lives cross again years later in Brussels under the smoke of the bombs with which El Círculo, an Islamist organization, sows terror in the heart of Europe.

A story that has its roots in human nature and its chiaroscuro. A vibrant novel by Julia Navarro that invites us to reflect on each of our certainties.
