The 3 best books by the surprising Kate Mosse

With evocations of the great mystery bestsellers (historical fiction version) style Dan Brown o Javier Sierra, Kate mosse found with his novel «The labyrinth»A new approach that achieved the same transcendent enigma effect of our civilization.

And of course, as in good magic tricks, we are all willing to be tricked into hidden truths that advance parallel to historical development. Because, believe it or not, our imagination needs sustenance and food to the same extent as our body.

Beyond the labyrinth and the rest of the trilogy (still waiting to publish the final "Citadel" in Spanish), Mosse has also written other novels within the same genre, as well as non-fiction books such as coaching or social chronicles.

But when it comes to fiction, as we say, Mosse always manages to fertilize the imagination with good mysteries that in some of his works are adorned with a ghostly, spectral point. The question is to advance in that line of the bestseller from proposals with a hook.

The labyrinth

If the Templars ended up being accused of being sacrilegious or even sodomites due to grudges and suspicions of collecting treasures, what with the Cathars was even more disturbing to the Church since its emergence and spread. Because those were born as a direct nemesis against Catholicism.

So Kate Mosse in this novel invites us to learn about these protégés of some feudal lords who are suspected of knowing how to move silently between power, even resorting to dark arts that escape us today.

In the mountains of Carcassonne, the land of the Cathars, a secret has remained hidden since the 13th century. In the midst of a crusade against the Cathars, young Alaïs has been assigned to protect an ancient book that contains the secrets of the Holy Grail.

Eight hundred years later, archaeologist Alice Tanner works on an excavation in the south of France and discovers a cave that has hidden dark mysteries for all these centuries. What will happen if everything comes to light?

The city of fire

Despite not belonging to the Languedoc trilogy, we continue around the Carcassonne that gave birth to the first Cathars and that in the 16th century was about to become that city of the most intense fire of the conflict between religions, beliefs, between faith and superstition.

Carcassonne, land of the Cathars, 1562. The young Catholic Minou Joubert receives an anonymous letter sealed with the emblem of a powerful saga, just five words: SHE KNOWS YOU ARE ALIVE.

Before Minou can decipher the mysterious message, fate will place the young convert Piet Reydon in front of her, who will change her destiny forever.

Piet has a dangerous mission, and he needs it to get out of La Cité alive. And meanwhile, the fracture between religions grows deeper every day, the battle lines are stained with blood and conspiracies are the order of the day. The mysterious lady of Puivert Castle is waiting for the perfect moment to attack…

Tomb

For many, this second part is better than the first because it considerably reduces the level of atmosphere, that descriptive point that in "The Labyrinth" was concerned with taking us to action with the detailed preciousness of a role-playing game. For me it is not a better novel, just more dynamic, typical of an action already channeled that cries out to advance in search of the resolution of its great enigma.

In Rennes-les-Bains, a well-known small town in the south of France, legends about strange beings spread by word of mouth. But are we only talking about popular rumors? Something evil has awakened ... the notes of a Debussy piece come out of an ancient tomb and the ghosts of the past dance to its rhythm. It all begins with a Tarot card reading, which will mark the destinies of Léonie and Meredith, two women who live together in two different centuries ... Two destinies that are one, the cards say.

Music, unfortunate loves, murders, persecutions, esotericism and cursed authors weave the ins and outs of this fascinating novel, in which inside its tomb we will find the answers that its protagonists pursue, and that will mark the paths that their lives have to follow.
